While individual owners rely on factory-installed security systems to prevent their cars from being stolen, manufacturers depend on these systems to track vehicles for repossession and ensure repair teams are appropriately trained to service security management systems, file proper repair orders, and conduct VIN validation and customer verification protocols. Like authorized dealers, independent operators (IO) and remote service suppliers (RSS) conducting repair and maintenance services must be able to review and refer to specific original equipment manufacturer (OEM) information on the software, functions and services required to fix or keep security-related systems in good operating condition.

The SERMI Scheme for Approved Access

Jointly managed by vehicle manufacturers and independent operators respectively involved in providing or obtaining access to security-related repair and maintenance information, the SERMI association provides the European cooperation for Accreditation (EA)-recognized scheme enabling qualified partners working in the European automotive aftermarket to receive sensitive OEM repair and maintenance information.

Our Services for SERMI Certification

Accredited by the relevant National Accreditation Body (NAB) as a Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) according to the ISO 17020 standard and functional requirements for SERMI certification, DEKRA provides company approval and employee authorizations for independent operators and remote service suppliers needing access to security-related vehicle repair and maintenance information and services.

After conducting the necessary approval for the commercial enterprise and authorizations for individual employees, DEKRA experts provide relevant documentation to the Trust Center (TC) for processing. Authorized employees working for an approved independent operator will receive a single combination of a multi-factor authentication and pin protected electronic certificate and an authorization to access all vehicle manufacturers. Unless revoked, company approval and employee authorizations are good for each token request when entering a new vehicle. Following request verification, the TC then sends the necessary security tokens to the applicant.

DEKRA issues the SERMI certificate which is valid for a period of 60 months.
